Birthday Girl

February 20, 2011

It’s not how I envisioned her 5th birthday…but I think she loved it nonetheless.

Birthday breakfast at McDonalds

We were supposed to eat dinner at “The Peanut Place” – her favorite – on her birthday.  Right before we left Brock got a fever and Jay had to take him to the ER.

Grammie and Papa joined us for dinner instead.  She even sat on the saddle and let the waiters tell yell Happy Birthday! to her.

The birthday outfit SHE picked out

The morning of her party was spent taking her for a flu test, getting prescriptions filled, and picking up her cake.  {It’s the first time she’s wanted a store-bought cake and honestly, I was a little sad about it.}

But then we got home and her cousin came over and all was right with the world.

PaPa watched Brock at the hospital and Daddy made it home just in time for the party.

Two hours of cake and punch and presents and playing with cousins.  And then it was back to the real world. {And back to the hospital}

Daddy finished the day off right by taking her to the park to fly her new kite and then out to dinner for a date.

Jaycie, you could not possibly be more excited about being 5.  Five is so old!  You were perfectly content with just having your cousins over for your party, and I’m wondering how much longer I can get away with this.  You chose your own outfit for the party – a party dress that was mine when I was five.  I would put it on every time I watched Mary Poppins because I thought it looked like her dress in the chalk-drawing.

Five reasons I adore this girl:

1. The way she makes up new words and talks just like a teacher when she’s trying to explain something.

2. How much she loves her brother and makes him smile.

3. How she loves learning and writing and trying to read and can tell me 400 facts about the solar system.

4. How she loves younger kids and tries to take them under her wing.  Even if she doesn’t know them.

5. How much she loves her family, immediate and extended.

Happy Birthday, sweet girl.  I love you.
