Winging It

March 3, 2010

Jaycie and I talk a lot in the car.  Maybe that’s because we’re in the car a lot – driving back and forth to the hospital, school, gymnastics, the office.  Mostly it’s just idle chatter.  About what she did that day or how “Brother” is doing.  Sometimes she throws out some deep questions, though.  “Mom, how do ducks learn to fly?”  Have you ever tried to answer 4-year old questions before?  It’s hard work!  Most of the time my answers aren’t satisfactory.  So this time I worked up a nice response about how God made every animal exactly like they needed to be and that He gave them mommy ducks and daddy ducks that could help them, and blah blah blah.  When I finished she said, “No mom!  They wing it! Ha! Ha! Ha!”

That’s great! You think someone taught her that joke or is she just witty by nature? Don’t you just love talk time in the car…that’s when Ava and I have our best conversations too 🙂

    That’s hilarious!
John and I took J to the pizza place on Saturday and on the placemats (AKA entertainment for all) it said that the average 4 year old asks 437 questions a day. We decided to count. We quit at 30. While we were still a lunch.

seriously. i should’ve counted during bedtime tonight. she saw me giving blood at church and had a million questions about it. “how do they get the blood out? is the needle still in your arm? what do they do with it? what hospitals will they take it to? will brother get it or another baby? how long do you have to leave that thing on your arm? when are they gonna put another thing on your arm? does it hurt? did you cry?” i finally had to tell her that if she didn’t stop talking i was going to leave and she was gonna have to go to sleep by herself. she was quiet for about 30 seconds and then said “momma…i just have one more question.” of course you do, kid.

she is hilarious! before i got married i nannied for two kiddos, a 4 yr old girl and her 9 month old brother. she was like jaycie…CONSTANTLY asking a bazillion questions. it was exhausting. and if i didn’t know the answer i would make up something ridiculous and she would just laugh at me. i always wondered how much she retained from what i told her since she was so young. on our walks i told her stories about Jesus. well, last fall her mom called, (she’s 9 now) and said she had accepted Christ the past weekend. and during counseling with their pastor he had her write a book about all the people in her life who helped her learn about who Jesus is. and the she said the person who first told her about Jesus (that she could remember) was me. I was shocked just because i thought she was too young for it to sink it. ever since then i’m sort of amazed by kids and how incredible they are. like your jaycie and brock.
