Those That Have Young

December 29, 2009

So I’m not exactly sure what this blog will be about…or even why I’m writing it.  I’m not a writer.  At. All.  It actually gives me a fair amount of anxiety.  And while there are several blogs that I follow on a daily basis and truly enjoy reading, the whole concept of blogging seems rather narcissistic to me…which is probably why I’ve hesitated so long to start one.  But your response to the last post gave me reason to create another – because I loved your comments and what I learned from YOU.  So maybe that’s what it will be about…me learning things from you and you learning things from each other.  I would imagine it might also take on the feel of a ‘mommy blog’…you know, because that’s what I am.  A mom.

B is doing better, by the way.  I guess I didn’t really clarify that in the last post.  He’s out of the ICU but still in the hospital.  No plans of going home anytime soon.  My almost-4-year-old daughter, J, misses him terribly.

I told you I read several blogs…Rocks In My Dryer is one of them.  I came across this post that led me to read Isaiah 40:11.  “He tends his flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in his arms
       and carries them close to his heart;
he gently leads those that have young.”

Isn’t that amazing?!  That the Lord of all creation would make a point to speak directly to us parents.  And not just any parents – parents with young children.  To let us know that he promises to lead us…and lead us gently.

What an amazing verse! I love that word “gently” too. He isn’t impatient or frustrated with us as we learn to walk this parenting road. What a wonderful God we serve!

i started my blog years ago while living in africa…it was a way for me to keep in touch such a long way from home. i kept blogging for the reasons you stated…what i learn from others. and also because i don’t feel whole if i’m not writing. and it gives me a way to look back and see how far God has carried me, what He has taught me…and how far (so very far) i have to go.

i read that verse a couple of months ago…about how the Lord gently leads those that have young. it was in the middle of a few days when i thought i was pregnant and absolutely terrified. turns out, i wasn’t pregnant but that verse…the Lord used it to calm my fears and remind me He knows, He understands and no matter what need I may have arise, He will be there to meet that need and provide the grace i need to walk through whatever may come.

keep blogging, please. i think you might be surprised what God will teach you…and what He will teach others through your words.

Beautiful. I think I need to put that verse in my preschool room. =)

You write because it’s cathartic, even when it gives you anxiety… because there are some things that you just can’t SAY out loud… because you can edit what you are saying… because it’s stability in your world which is oh so unstable right now… and most of all because God has given you a wonderful gift of witnessing to people and you just can’t help it. You want to shout from the mountaintops what He’s done for you… and that is why we love you. 🙂

You don’t know me but I’ve been praying for your family since around Thanksgiving when someone emailed the link to the caringbridge site to me. I have been praying Isaiah 40:11.

It happens to be used in a prayer that comes out of the Book of Common Prayer which we use in our Anglican Church. This is the prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ, Good Shepherd of the sheep, you gather the lambs in your arms and carry them in your bosom: We commend to your loving care this child, B. Relieve his pain, guard him from all danger, restore to him your gifts of gladness and strength, and raise him up to a life of service to you. Hear us, we pray, for your Name’s sake. Amen.

Just wanted to share that with you because I believe there are no coincidences in life.

Remember that you and your husband are also lambs. He’s holding the two of you (and your daughter) close to his heart, too.

You and your family are an incredible witness to those who don’t know Jesus (and to those of us who do know Him). Painful as this experience is, you are leading people to Christ by walking the walk, and talking the talk.

We are praying that the Holy Spirit sustain all of you as you continue on this journey. You are all very precious.
